Federal Publications Seminars is seeking a Conference Director. This position reports to the Manager, Conferences and will be located in Washington, DC. The Conference Director has overall responsibility for the planning, execution, and financial success of educational programs and conferences for government contracting professionals, including compliance officers and contracting officers in both the government and corporate marketplace.
This position is responsible for the topic selection, faculty recruitment and agenda development plus the onsite execution of half day and full day programs and longer conferences. This position also teams with the business' marketing and sales groups to drive the successful marketing and sales of the programs and conferences. Additionally, this position is responsible for developing strong working relationships with speakers and conference chairs, all of whom are typically high profile senior partners, in-house counsel, government contracting professionals, educators and government regulators.
The Conference Director is accountable for both the revenue and expenses of assigned programs and conferences as well as maintaining Federal Publications Seminars' standard of best in class programs and conferences.
Primary responsibilities include:
  • Annual development of government contracting and related substantive law topics to be produced by the business.
  • Accountability for the P&L of programs and conferences.
  • Oversee all aspects of programs and conferences to ensure successful execution, including frequently being onsite during programs.
  • Develop and maintain best in class program content and speakers.
  • Develop substantive topical content for events, including agendas and overseeing the collection of substantive print material.
  • Engage acknowledged experts on substantive law and government contracting to develop programs, agendas and substantive materials.
  • Provide superior customer service with a sense of urgency to speakers and chairs.
  • Work with all team members to ensure they have the program information necessary to complete all aspects of program execution: operations, accreditation, marketing and sales, financial reporting, etc.
  • Meet reporting deadlines as assigned.

Qualifications
Qualifications
  • In-depth knowledge and a minimum of 3 years experience in federal government contracting and procurement.
  • Proactive approach to identifying and persuading industry leaders.
  • Experience working with senior level attorneys and executives.
  • Superior oral and written communication abilities: demonstrated ability to work with a wide range of sensitive and confidential issues.
  • Self-starter with ability to work with minimal supervision and manage workload effectively with competing demands for resources and time.
  • Desire and ability to identify, develop and track new developments in substantive legal and regulatory areas.
  • Demonstrated competencies in being accountable for financial goals, high touch customer service.
  • Proven competencies in managing conferences.
  • Four year degree required. Masters or JD preferred.
  • Proven ability to work in a team environment.
  • Outstanding organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to react quickly, assess, create and execute solutions in a time-sensitive manner.
  • Ability to travel regularly.
