Moffatt & Nichol is actively seeking a Junior Level Civil Engineer to join our Norfolk office. This individual will assist with the planning and design on a wide variety of projects which may include site layout, site civil design, rough & precise grading, dredging, drainage design, and utility design.

Duties and responsibilities:

• Assist and support designs and construction projects by studying project concept, architectural drawings, and models
• Assist the preparation of engineering designs by collecting and studying reports, maps, drawings, aerial photographs, and tests on soil composition, terrain, hydrological characteristics, and related topographical and geologic data
• Create feasibility study by analyzing engineering design, conducting environmental impact studies, and assembling data
• Prepare design documents and reports for civil site development (site layout, grading, drainage, erosion control, utilities, and other infrastructure systems)
• Perform calculations, prepare cost estimates, drawings, technical specifications, and write reports
• Assist in the production of engineering documents by developing construction specifications, plans, and schedules
• Perform limited field observations in support of construction and data collection
• May assist in the training of junior staff and guide designers

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering
• EIT certification (required)
• Internship or experience in site/civil or land development engineering strongly preferred
• Proficiency in AutoCAD and Civil 3D
• All new hires will be required to successfully complete and pass a pre-employment (post offer) background check in compliance with NIST 800-171

Working conditions:

Majority of work is office based. Some site visits may be required which may necessitate navigating unpaved or natural terrain while carrying equipment.
