Overview

The Lead MA is responsible for assisting department management in coordination of patient care and clinic operations to include, but not limited to: being the primary Super User directly responsible for assisting providers and clinic staff with immediate EHR concerns, assists providers and clinic staff with outstanding tasks for patient centered quality care, and is a line of contact between clinic staff and department management in giving detailed clinical operations reports regarding clinic staff and provider's concerns to implement quality improvement measures.

Responsibilities

Lead M.A. Essential Duties And Responsibilities

    Responsible for the coordination of lunches and breaks
  • Monitors and inventories supplies for clinic and reports to the appropriate supervisor
  • Is one of the designated E.H.R. Super Users for all providers and staff in clinic
  • Coordinates morning and afternoon team huddles for daily clinic operations
  • Oversees throughout the clinic that all documents requiring processing are completed as well as oversees the completion of provider and nursing tasks
  • Provides patient education and information as instructed by clinic practitioners and clinic protocols
  • Schedules patient appointments as necessary
  • Responsible for specific team training of all new clinic staff (patient triage, tasks, paperwork and workflows)
  • Attends Clinic staff meetings, Department meetings, Provider meetings and applicable Grand Rounds
  • Assists with development and recommends new work flows
  • Reviews monthly provider task reports with follow-up on outstanding tasks for providers in 30 day range
  • Provides back-up for medical reception and medical records as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Clincial Supervisor.

Lead M.A. also functions as an M.A. with the below listed responsibilities:

Medical Assistant Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Calls patients from reception area and prepares patients for examination by providing gowns.
  • Takes vital signs, draw blood and gives all injections as requested.
  • Reconciles allergy lists, medication lists, and smoking status of patients.
  • HCG, urinalysis, rapid strep tests, cultures, process in-house lab results and outbound tests as well as INRs in the absence of department manager.
  • EKGS, PFTs, nebulizer treatments, apply oxygen as needed and assist with pap exams, perform ear lavages, and administers immunizations and other injections as ordered.
  • Chaperons when appropriate and assists during treadmills, colposcopies, minor surgeries.
  • Maintains clean, well-equipped examination rooms and cleans and sterilizes instruments.
  • Stocks examination rooms, triage area, and work station with medical supplies for designated team.
  • Performs phone triage, completes team tasks, paperwork and faxes.
  • Scan upcoming appointments for additional medical record information necessary. Obtain medical records from other physician offices, hospitals, labs, emergency rooms, and radiology prior to patient visit.
  • Participate in all staff meetings, education lectures and quality improvement activities.
  • Follow EVMS protocols related to infection control, environmental safety and patient confidentiality. Complete annual recertification for Blood Borne Pathogens, HIPAA Compliance Training, Respiratory FIT and IT Policy. Maintain current CPR certification and any updates relating to M.A. Certification.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

High school diploma plus successful completion of a Medical Assistant program and certification (RMA or CMA). Equivalent military training will be accepted. Completion of BLS class and re-certify every 2 years.

EXPERIENCE:

Successful completion of a Medical assistant program.

Must be an experienced M.A. of at least 2 years in a high volume clinical practice.

Familiarity with desktop computing tools, multi-line phone systems

Ability to efficiently manage time,prioritize multiple tasks, and delegate tasks/responsibilites.

Ability to organize work, set priorities and delegate tasks/responsibilities in order to meet deadlines

Ability to make professional nursing decisions under the supervision of the physicians and licensed nurses.

Possess professional interaction skills with physicians, outside offices, pharmacies, referring agencies, hospital personnel and support staff.

Supervisory experience is preferred
